This past Christmas, my wife, Karyn, suggested we take the time to do some homemade Christmas gifts for each other in our family. Realizing there is a boat load of commitments going on for us during the Christmas season (as would be for most any family – kids’ musicals at church and school, school parties, shopping, shipping, and more), Karyn suggested we draw names. I drew my son, Luke’s name.
Luke has been into cars and airplanes literally since he could crawl. Lately, he’s had an affection for the Morris Minis of the 60s.
I initially sketched out the basic composition on my iPad, and then brought that into Photoshop to do this digital painting. The end results were printed out as six tiles and applied to 11″ x 14″ pre-stretched canvases to be hung on his bedroom wall. I was glad to see Luke was pretty excited when he opened up the package on Christmas Eve!
